The First Amendment

Congress shall make no law respecting the establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof, or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or of the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

I believe that this amendment carries out the right to be able to choose your own religion based solely on your own beliefs and values, without the constriction of the government. I also believe it enables to the right and freedom for one to make a complaint to the government, federal and state, without the fear of any repercussion or punishment. Lastly, this amendment allows the freedom of speech. It allows citizens to be able to speak freely about their views, beliefs, and values. Although, there are certain limitations on this amendment, they are reasonable to avoid the government of danger.

I chose this video to represent the first amendment because I feel as though it thoroughly explains the limitations on the freedom of speech. It shows that even though all citizens do have the right to freedom of speech, there are certain ways the matter can be complicated and looked on in different ways. It includes different court cases that show where the freedom of speech was allowed and where it was not allowed.

I also chose this video to additionally represent the first amendment. I believe that this video interprets the words of the first amendment entirely and encompasses how they are applied to citizen's everyday life. This video showcases each underlying freedom that is exemplified in the first amendment and shows how and why the government cannot constrict or impair these freedoms.
