Let's Start With The Beginning

We the People of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America. 

I believe that the Preamble’s significance is often overlooked and generally all eyes go straight to the Constitution, without recognizing the equal importance of the Preamble. This concept, brought forth by our forefathers, was not anticipated to be a law, but to serve as a bridge to the Declaration of Independence. To me, this remarkable paragraph shows that the new government would not be perfect, but more perfect than the last one.

 I chose this video to represent what the Preamble means to me because I believe that this video encompasses the true meaning of the Preamble. It showcases the fact that the Preamble and the Constitution were written to build our government stronger, and to deem it closer to perfect. I think that this video appropriately portrays the importance of equality and freedom, which I believe was a main goal throughout the Preamble and the Constitution.

The Sixteenth Amendment

The Congress shall have power to lay and collect taxes on incomes, from  whatever source derived, without apportionment among the several States,  and without regard to any census or enumeration. The Sixteenth Amendment gave Congress the right to collect income tax. This amendment is still significant  today as a century later Congress still collects income tax from workers. This amendment also reversed the  decision of Pollock v. No person shall be held to answer for a capital, or otherwise infamous crime,  unless on a presentment or indictment of a Grand Jury, except in cases arising  in the land or naval forces, or in the Militia, when in actual service in time of  War or public danger; nor shall any person be subject for the same offence to  be twice put in jeopardy of life or limb; nor shall be compelled in any criminal  case to be a witness against himself, nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property,  without due process of law; nor shall private property be taken for public use,  without just compensation.
